The Swamp Ghost
What kind of aircraft did the soldiers know it to be? It turned out that this was the Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress, which had gone missing in 1942. It has been dubbed the Swamp Ghost since its discovery.
Over the years, it became a legend of military aviation. According to aviation historian Fred Hagen “it was widely believed that this aeroplane could not be salvaged.”
