Giving Her Lunch Money
Nina confidently walked towards the nearest homeless man, holding the money in her hands. Her mother watched the scene from a distance with a mixture of curiosity and worry. She got closer and saw the frail man, who was hunched as if in prayer. His cup was outstretched, asking for spare change.
Nina strain her ears to try and decipher his indistinct murmurs. The words were elusive and left her curious.
The Reaction
She smiled warmly and honestly as she reached in her purse to take out some crumpled dollar notes. She placed the bills into the cup of the man, feeling joy and satisfaction. She was happy to make a difference and express her happiness in a soft tone.
The man who was sitting with his back to the wall, raised his gaze with eyes full of gratitude and appreciation. His weathered face radiated a smile of gratitude and hope. As their eyes met, the man’s smiling face vanished and was replaced by a look that was confused and sad.
