Mel Gibson, who starred in such films as Braveheart and Lethal Weapon, was the epitome action hero. He was also a great director, perhaps even more so. Hollywood, despite Mel Gibson’s talent, turned away from him in 2006 when he was arrested for DUI, and began hurling anti-Semitic and homophobic insults. After almost ten years, people began to forget and forgive. Hacksaw Ridge, the 2016 film directed by the actor/director, received widespread acclaim. Since then he has been steadily climbing Hollywood’s ladder.
