Mobility Limitations
Curvatures of the spinal cord cause severe discomfort to SMA patients. SMA patients’ mobility is reduced, and children with SMA are feeling too weak due to the curvature of their spines. Their range of movement through their movements becomes minimal. Weak joints in children can reduce the range of motion, making them more susceptible to spinal curvature. In patients with spinal muscular atrophy, the muscles become less flexible. This leads to fewer movements. The patient has difficulty moving freely due to the pain caused by spinal curvature.
