5. Controlled breathing
You may find it difficult to breathe when you’re feeling unwell and experiencing nausea. You might feel your stomach churning, and you may start breathing quickly. It can make nausea worse. You can control your breathing to help you get rid of it. Breathe deeply through your nose, then out your mouth. You can use this if something around you is making you nauseous, like a smell or food you dislike. This can help you if you feel nauseous when traveling, on a plane or amusement park ride.
Controlled breathing is not recommended if there are more serious causes of nausea such as stomach viruses or other illnesses.
By focusing on your breathing, you can also distract yourself from the nausea. Focusing on breathing patterns and not nausea can help you to reduce the feeling.
