Narcolepsy: 14 Signs You Might Not Have Noticed
9. REM Sleep Problems
Rapid eye movement (REM) occurs when you enter a deep state of sleep. It determines how you sleep, and whether you dream. The REM stage occurs at the deepest sleep levels and indicates that you are asleepwell.
You may not be capable of reaching this level of rest when you suffer from narcolepsy. You will not feel rested if you don’t get enough sleep. This can cause brain fog and confusion. A person cannot think clearly or properly process information without proper sleep.
Some people, on the other hand enter REM sleep instantly and remain asleep for longer than they intended or should. Even though they set an alarm or know that they should, they may still have difficulty waking up. They can also oversleep if they fall into REM while taking short naps. Narcolepsy confuses the brain, and can affect the way a person sleeps.
