Narcolepsy: 14 Signs You Might Not Have Noticed
4. Muscle Tone
Narcolepsy can cause muscle loss or a lack of definition. Many people are unaware of it because it usually comes on quickly. It can get severe very quickly, and cause a person to collapse.
The patient, or those who see the collapse, may think that the patient fell asleep suddenly. The person who falls may be awake and alert but they are unable to control their body or have the strength to stop themselves from falling. It’s a frightening thing to witness and experience.
This type of collapse is what usually prompts someone to visit a doctor to get the proper diagnosis. After narcolepsy has been treated, muscle tone can return to normal. Sudden collapses may be less common. Even after treatment, some people still experience sudden collapses.
