4. Preventing Diabetes
Prediabetes is a blood disorder that affects more than 84 million Americans. Another 29 million Americans suffer from a more advanced form, type-2 Diabetes. The blood sugar disorder is caused by the repeated consumption of refined carbohydrates and sugar.
The pancreas regulates blood sugar levels. The pancreas secretes insulin when it detects an increase in blood sugar. Insulin brings blood sugar levels back to normal. Sugary foods can damage the pancreas’ ability to secrete effective insulin.
After consuming carbohydrates, diabetics must take exogenous insulin. Insulin injections ensure that they do not become hypoglycemic or slip into a state of coma. Mushrooms are a great source of nutrition for diabetics. They are low in carbohydrate and high in minerals and vitamins. Mushrooms contain bioactive enzymes and compounds that help the body regulate hormone and insulin production, and improve insulin sensitivity.
