Confusion
Hepatitis A can also cause confusion. The brain is affected by both the infection and the buildup of bilirubin. In order to fight ana infection, our body causes inflammation in various parts of the body. It also makes the environment less welcoming, which helps isolate the infection. This can affect other parts, such as the brain. It can cause confusion, brain fog and forgetfulness. In some cases, it may even result in depression.
The symptom occurs more often in older patients, usually those above the age of fifty. These patients are more likely suffering from a condition known as fulminant Hepatitis. Patients will degrade much faster, which can lead to a coma or cerebral edema. It can be caused by liver failure, or disseminated intervascular coagulation. It is therefore vital that you see a doctor as soon as possible if you suspect Hepatitis-A, especially if your age exceeds 50.
