Daniel Kristiansen was a 14-year-old Danish student, who, along with his father Klaus, went to a nearby field in order to complete Daniel’s World War II homework. According to family legends of the Kristiansens, a German plane crashed in their area in 1944.

They set off to find the plane without expecting it to be true. They were surprised to find a WWII fighter aircraft, a pilot uniform, a skeleton and an old wallet containing coins. The plane was a Messerschmitt Bf 109 warplane, which the Luftwaffe used extensively throughout World War II.

Who knows what lurks in Irish bogs. One man found something even unexpected in 2016. A man in Cavan County, Ireland found a 22-pound piece of butter in a bog on his farm.

Experts say that the bog butter is over 2,000 years old. Archeologists also say you could, if daring enough to do so, take a bit of the bog butter as it has likely remained preserved and edible over time. This unusual discovery is now housed at the National Museum of Ireland.
