He noticed that the texture of one wall was different from all the other walls in his home. So he investigated. He removed the wall to reveal a 120 year old tunnel beneath his house. He found random bottles and tins, old newspapers, paint cans and random tins in the tunnel. The man, after consulting a friend who is a historian, surmised that the old tunnel was a cellar. This feature of 19th-century homes is common.

Renovations can be a treasure trove of strange items and additions, especially when they are done to an existing building or home. Two salon owners in Runcorn (England) were renovating their property when, in 2022, they found a secret tunnel and room hidden behind a staircase.
The area contained a lot of small glass squares as well as a mirror that was tarnished, bricks and a sandstone arched door. Adele Young said that she was “amazed” and “stunned” when she discovered the secret room. Young believes that her salon has been “haunted”.
