64. Two kids find a Ferrari buried in their backyard
Location: Los Angeles, California
Year of discovery: 1978
Est. Value: $853,000*
Two boys in California began digging in their backyard. The boys found a rare Ferrari Dino GTS 1974 buried a few feet beneath the dirt. The Dino had been crudely wrapped in towels and tarps, which indicated that its previous owner intended to exhume the car one day.
That’s not the whole story. It turns out that the Dino’s previous owner hired thieves who stole his car and dumped it in the sea so he could commit fraud. The thieves instead buried the vehicle, hoping to come back to retrieve it in a plan which never worked out. This wacky story would make a great IMAX film.
