Croup: 14 signs and symptoms
2. Wheezing
The same swelling and restriction that can cause coughing and a wheezing noise when breathing can also lead to a change in the voice. The air escapes through a smaller passageway. You’ll hear a similar sound if you blow air through pursed lip.
It can be difficult to breath, but this is not the norm. You should seek medical help as soon as you notice you or your young are having difficulty breathing.
It is also important that wheezing is made when inhaling. The high-pitched sound can also be heard during exhalation, which is a sign of a potentially dangerous condition. You should consult a doctor immediately if you hear this.
Look out for any signs of blue skin around the mouth, nose or fingernails. This indicates that the patient may not be getting enough oxygen. Consult a doctor immediately if you notice this.
