This condition most commonly affects children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years. The effect is more noticeable because of the smaller size of the children. Their airways and voices boxes are thinner, making it easier to notice.
Croup can be seen up to six years of age, but is rare in older patients. Croup can also affect adults and the elderly.
It is most prevalent at certain times during the year, particularly in late fall and early winter. The condition is more common among boys.
