Broken Ribs: Symptoms and Treatment

5. Add Strain

You may have injured your ribs if you experience increased strain around your ribcage. You may also experience some of the symptoms listed, including extreme pain, swelling, and bruising at the fracture.

You will notice the added strain when you do any kind of exercise or activity that uses the muscles near the ribs. It can be as simple as breathing or moving. This additional strain is usually noticeable during the healing process which can last six to eight week.

Reduce strain immediately after an injury, until you see a doctor. Follow the doctor’s instructions to reduce the strain and allow your ribs to heal properly.
