3. Swelling
You can assume that a fracture is the cause of swelling ribs, especially after a trauma. A rib cannot be sprained. If you experience symptoms, it is likely that your rib has been broken.
You should go to the emergency department as soon as you notice swelling in your ribs after a trauma. You can worsen the injury if you don’t seek medical attention immediately. Swelling can indicate a broken rib about to puncture a vital organ.
Ice the affected area immediately after the incident. This will naturally reduce the swelling. Using ice packs to keep the area cool can help the healing process.
