9. Diagnosis
The diagnosis of Guillain-Barre syndrome can be complex and challenging. This will usually involve a neurological exam that could require a spinal puncture. It is also necessary to test tendonreflexes. This test is to check the shortening reaction that occurs when a muscle-tendon system suddenly extends. It’s designed to prevent us from falling. If these reflexes are missing, this suggests that there has been some nerve damage.
Blood tests can also be performed to help identify underlying causes.
