14 Trichomoniasis Facts

  1. Trichomoniasis Transmission

Trichomoniasis is caused by a parasite, as previously stated. This parasite is so small that it is invisible to the unaided eye. Trich is transmitted through unprotected sexual contact with an infected individual. It is transmitted when pre-cum, cum, or vaginal fluids enter the vulva, vagina, or penis.

Most frequently, trich is transmitted through vaginal contact. It can also be transmitted through vulva-to-vulva contact, sex toy sharing, and handling your partner’s or your own genitalia with infected hands. Trich is readily transmitted to the penis, urethra, vagina, and vulva, but not to the anus or mouth.

Sharing drinks or food, embracing, holding hands, sneezing, kissing, coughing, or sitting on a toilet seat will not transmit the parasite. It is only transmitted via sexual contact with sexual secretions.
