Since trichomoniasis is transmitted through anal, vaginal, and orall intercourse, the simplest and most effective method of protection is to abstain from sexual activity. Since this is not a viable option for most individuals, the next best method is to use a latex condom every time you engage in sexual activity.
However, even using a condom does not provide complete protection. While condoms are effective in preventing the majority of sexually transmitted diseases and reducing the risk of pregnancy, they are not 100 percent reliable. Birth control pills and other commonly used methods of contraception do not protect against any form of STD.
Abstinence is the only one hundred percent sure method to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Taking precautions, such as having yourself and your companion tested, will reduce your risk of contractions.
