If you have damaged a tendon, you will frequently observe edema and redness in the area where the tendon was damaged. This is the body’s attempt to repair the damage that has been done. The body sends blood to the affected area in an attempt to provide the necessary nutrients and antibodies to initiate the healing process. In certain instances, the injured area may become discolored.
The area may begin to appear black, blue, or yellow. When this occurs, it suggests that the tendonitis is caused by an infection. If you have an infection, a steroid injection will not help; you will need to take antibiotics to attempt to eliminate the infection. Bacteria are the cause of the discoloration, so it is crucial to address it as soon as possible, before the problem worsens.
