3. Issues with Posture and Walking
Those with poor posture or other structural issues are more susceptible to developing heel spurs. Those with flat feet, also known as collapsed arches, experience uneven pressure distribution on the heel bone and ankles.
This pressure causes them to step inwards, affecting their posture as well. In addition to their feet, a person with flat feet will have posture issues in their hips and ankles. Due to the relative width of their hips in comparison to their knees, women are also more susceptible to developing heel spurs.
All of these factors result in increased pressure on the heel during walking, running, and leaping, which can promote the development of heel spurs. The most effective treatment is a therapy that teaches the patient a different method to walk in order to reduce or space out the pressure. This may entail arch elevation for proper joint alignment.
