- Inherited Neuropathy
Hereditary neuropathies refer to a collection of inherited nerve disorders. As its name implies, the disorder is genetic and impacts individuals. Hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, hereditary motor neuropathy, hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, and hereditary sensory neuropathy are the four primary classifications. Depending on the type of disorder, the symptoms of hereditary neuropathies vary. Common sensory symptoms include numbness, pain in the afflicted extremities (feet and hands), and tingling. The motor symptoms include muscle weakness and muscle atrophy. The muscles of the lower limb and foot are affected by atrophy.
Other inherited neuropathies are known to disrupt the autonomic nerves, resulting in impaired perspiration, insensitivity to pain, and postural hypotension, among other symptoms. Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease and hereditary neuropathy with susceptibility to pressure palsies are the two most common forms of inherited neuropathy.
