6. The spontaneous contraction of musculature
If you have ever fallen unconscious and then felt like you were tripping or falling, this could be one of the additional symptoms of sleep paralysis.
It is prevalent, and many people experience it. There are a number of misconceptions surrounding the causes and consequences of this condition. However, the majority of these myths are false (and no, you will not perish if you have the same dream and fall while dreaming).
The reality about sleep jerking is that it is a side effect of falling asleep (when the body is attempting to shut down nerve responses).
Sleep jerking can be uncomfortable and may occasionally accompany sleep paralysis, but it is generally not hazardous. The body simply considers it a “misfire” when it attempts to induce a natural slumber state.
It is also one of the primary causes of sleep paralysis in the first place. If you were not paralyzed during sleep, you could potentially harm yourself by “acting out” your visions.
