4. Seeing a variety of hues when one’s eyes are closed
Have you ever closed your eyes and lightly pressed your palms against them to see hues appear on the “insides” of your eyes? This exemplifies one of the other symptoms that you are likely to experience during sleep paralysis, though it should not be done excessively.
When sleep paralysis occurs, the brain is attempting to induce a sleep state while the rest of the body is attempting to adapt to the idea of being asleep. This causes a conflict in whether the brain realizes it is awake or asleep, resulting in dream-like experiences.
After experiencing tingling, numbness, and the characteristic invisible weight of sleep paralysis, you may experience “colors” on the backs of your eyes, almost as if you were pressing your palms into your eyes when you aren’t.
It is your body’s attempt to enter “sleep mode,” and other symptoms, such as an elevated pulse rate, are likely to accompany it.
