- Other Strategies
In certain instances, doctors may prescribe anesthetic injections to help alleviate and reduce a patient’s nerve pain, or surgery, which is a very uncommon recommendation for addressing or treating nerve pain. The following are examples of what are commonly referred to as non-medical strategies:
Education and guidance
Often, neuropathic pain is difficult to treat, and a variety of therapies may be required to alleviate or reduce the pain and enhance the individual’s daily function. It is crucial that the patient is well-informed and conscious of his or her condition. By educating the patient and providing a series of counseling sessions, the patient may find some success with self-help medication.
Psychiatric therapies
Typically administered by psychologists, these psychological treatments assist the patient in managing his or her pain and alleviating the tension that nerve pain causes.
