- Watch what you eat!
As you may have observed thus far, certain foods appear to exacerbate menstrual cramp pain, while others appear to alleviate it. The key is to monitor your diet and only consume foods that alleviate discomfort while avoiding those that exacerbate it. It becomes difficult when you crave excessively salty, sweet, or oily foods during your period. For instance, salty foods dehydrate the body, causing bloating; therefore, avoid salted potato crisps, doughnuts, and other similar foods.
It is essential to consume more anti-inflammatory foods, such as squash, tomatoes, cranberries, blueberries, and bell peppers. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish are optimal for treating menstrual cramps. Increase your consumption of calcium-rich foods such as legumes, dark greens, and almonds. Additionally, avoid alcoholic beverages, carbonated beverages, caffeine, and, as previously stated, salty and oily foods.
