- Trauma directly to the appendix
Any direct impact or trauma to the appendix can be enough to cause a severe infection, and it can cause the appendix to inflame or burst if there is an existing infection or if the individual is already in the early stages of appendicitis.
It could occur to someone who is involved in a car accident and sustains an appendix injury, or to someone who is assaulted and receives a direct blow to the appendix or abdomen: If inflammation is present, a subsequent inflamed (or ruptured) appendix is almost undoubtedly the next step.
This could also cause internal bleeding in other portions of the body, which may not manifest externally but is a potentially fatal condition.
If you have sustained any type of physical trauma, even if it appears that everything is fine, you must seek medical attention promptly to receive a clean bill of health.
