- Prior appendicitis inadequately untreated
For several decades, the standard treatment for a burst or infected appendix has been the complete removal of the appendix. However, an increasing number of doctors are prescribing antibiotics for the same condition rather than putting the patient through the risk of an additional surgery they may not be able to handle.
Although this is a wonderful treatment option, there are many chronic patients who have taken so many courses of antibiotics throughout their lives that general antibiotics are no longer effective for them.
If you are a member of the population for whom the prescribed antibiotic did not work as well as it should have, it may cause an appendicitis infection to recur.
At the first signs of an infection coming back, see your doctor again to find out if there are any other courses of antibiotics that might take care of the infection, or find out about the potential of appendix removal to stop the problem from coming back again
