- Diabetes mellitus
Blurred vision can be one of the first indications of diabetes, and it is often accompanied by other symptoms such as excessive fatigue or sleepiness, tingling in the hands or feet, swelling of the ankles, and numbness; frequent urination is also a common symptom of type I, type II, and type III (or gestational) diabetes.
If you experience impaired vision along with other typical diabetes symptoms (or if you have a family history of diabetes), you should be tested by a physician. A straightforward prick test and a few minutes are all it takes to determine your blood sugar levels, after which diabetes is a very manageable condition.
In cases of diabetes, impaired vision is accompanied by an insulin imbalance and may be one of the precursors to a diabetic coma. If your symptoms are severe, you may not be able to wait for a doctor’s appointment and may instead need to visit the emergency room.
