14 Causes of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction
9. Adenoids
The adenoids are located at the back of the throat, closest to the ear. Adenoids are a part of the system that drains and removes toxins and pathogens.
They absorb toxins and swell if they are collecting pathogens in large quantities or if they have to work hard to fight an infection. They can block the eustachian tube when they swell. It can also lead to infection if the tubes are blocked.
Adenoids are removed in some cases because they cause more harm than good. The tonsils may be removed as well. The eustachian tube can function properly once the adenoids have been removed or the swelling has gone down.
