14 Causes of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction
12. Ear Infections
Ear Infections can cause severe pain to the ear. Infected ears can have an infection in the eustachian tube or ear canal. The infection can start in the ear or spread from another part of the body.
The Eustachian Tubes should be able to flush out fluid and infection from the ear, but the infection can cause them to swell so that they cannot function properly. Antibiotics are used to treat ear infections, which usually resolve within a couple of days. After the infection has cleared, the ear will feel less pressure. The eustachian tube will also open up.
The ears will feel less clogged and heavy. Children with shorter eustachian tube infections are more likely to get ear infections.
