11. Strep throat
Bacteriaoften attach themselves to the throat. This type of infection is strep throat. The infection can be very painful and dangerous.
It can cause fevers, headaches, and dehydration in addition to the pain and discomfort felt by the ears, nose and throat.
Inflammation in the throat may cause the eustachian tube to swell shut. Fluid or infection trapped in the ear can grow and cause pressure. Since strep throat is an illness, it’s treated with antibiotics.
The infection can last for several days or even weeks. As soon as the body is clear of infection, swelling should disappear in the ears and throat. The pressure that causes the eustachian tubes to build up should also subside. Many people wait until symptoms are severe before seeking medical attention for strep throat.
