10 Foods to Avoid on a Diet for Colitis

2.Milk

Milk will not be a problem for the majority of individuals, but for some, it may be the primary cause of ulcerative colitis.

The issue here is lactose-related. Lactose is a milk sugar that many individuals in the Western world can easily metabolize. Those who are lactose intolerant, which includes the preponderance of many ethnic groups, do not produce lactase as adults, meaning they are unable to digest and utilize lactose. This then causes lactose to accumulate in the colon, where it can begin to curdle and produce methane.

This ordinarily causes pain and discomfort, but can exacerbate ulcerative colitis significantly.
It is worthwhile to attempt eliminating milk from your diet if you have ulcerative colitis, given that it affects such a large percentage of the population.
